There are different coffee drinks in Italy. They are suitable for different occasions during a day. Here I describe them shortly, but you can learn more through this blog.
CAPPUCCINO
It is a coffee drink made of Espresso Coffee at the bottom of a big cup and foamed milk above. Locals take it in the morning with some pastry, but foreigners prefer it during the day.
CAFFE ESPRESSO – ESPRESSO COFFEE
It is the basis for all other coffee drinks, but usually, locals drink it in its purity. Seems to be the simplest coffee product but in reality, it is most difficult to achieve (a good one). It can be short, normal or long, but the long one is already of lower quality due to lack of coffee’s foam.
CAFFE MACCHIATO – MACCHIATO COFFEE
Macchiato is an Espresso at the bottom of the small cup and just a spoon of foamed milk above. You can see many Italians, especially in the south taking it at the place of Cappuccino. It is a nice solution between Coffee and Cappuccino. I suggest it to everybody – try at least – to take it in the afternoon at the place of Cappuccino – it’s a great choice.
CAFFE CORRETTO – CORRETTO COFFEE
It is an Espresso with a spoon or two of spirit. Sometimes with anise spirit or brandy. Mostly in the north of Italy. By adding spirit due to temperature difference some Espresso properties are lost.
LATTE MACCHIATO
It should not be confused with Caffe Macchiato but there are still some similarities. In this case, there is foamed milk at the bottom of the glass (150 – 200 ml) and simply an Espresso overturned above.
CAFFE AFFOGATO – AFFOGATO COFFEE
There is simply a scoop of ice cream overtopped with an Espresso lungo – Long Espresso Coffee. Some liquor, chocolate or amaretto can be put on ice cream before overturning the coffee.
There are some new inventions in some parts of Italy – like in Fenestrella bar near Naples.
After years of my personal coffee – related behaviour I decided to present you aspects of coffee taking in Italy, Balkans and Turkey, which I go often too. Please search through this blog to find all articles and let me know if you like them. And remember – you can travel close to me – it’s wonderful.
